Tibet Norbulinka

Comments:  The Norbulinka compound in Lhasa was the summer residence of the Dalai Lama: much smaller in scale than the Potala Palace, with flowers, lush gardens and open space. It was from here in March, 1959, that his Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama fled from Chinese military demands that surely would have led to his capture. Instead, he, his family and retinue were offered exile in India by Prime Minister Nehru after a harrowing escape over the Himalayas.
